Fourth joyful mystery.

The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. (Luke 2, 21-40)

“And when the eight days for his circumcision were fulfilled, he was called by the name of Jesus, the name indicated by the angel before his conception. And when the days for their purification were fulfilled, according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, as it is written in the Law of the Lord: Every firstborn boy shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer as a sacrifice, according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, a couple of turtledoves or two young doves. And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was just and pious; he awaited the consolation of Israel and the Holy Spirit rested on him. And he had been divinely warned by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had seen the Lord's Christ. So he came to the Temple, moved by the Spirit, and when the parents brought the little child Jesus to fulfill the prescriptions of the Law for him, he received him in his arms, blessed God and said: "Now, Sovereign Master, according to thy word thou mayest let thy servant go in peace: for my eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples, a light to shine upon the nations, and the glory of thy people Israel. " His father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him. Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother: "See! This child must bring the downfall and the raising of many in Israel; he must be a sign in contradiction, - and you yourself a sword. will pierce your soul! - so that the intimate thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. " There was also a prophetess, Anne, daughter of Phanuel, from the tribe of Asher. She was very advanced in years. After having lived with her husband for seven years since her virginity, she remained a widow; when she reached the age of eighty-four, she never left the Temple, serving God day and night in fasting and prayer. Coming at this very hour, she praised God and spoke of the child to all who awaited the deliverance of Jerusalem. And when they had done all that was according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their city Nazareth. However, the child grew, strengthened and filled with wisdom. And the grace of God was upon him. "
