Makarska is located in Dalmatia, Croatia and is about an hour and a half from Medjugorje. (96 kms).
In Makarska you will find a Marian shrine founded in 1908 by the Bishop of Split Juraj-Caric. This sanctuary is known because there is a natural cave in which is nestled a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Right next to this cave was erected a chapel with a sacristy, an altar and confessionals. A Via Crucis (Stations of the Cross) was also erected for pilgrims. In the chapel one can admire mosaics which were elaborated by the same artist who made the most recent mosaics of the sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France.
This sanctuary is located in a setting of greenery and magnificent mountains.
The sanctuary is visited all year round and especially on February 11 (the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes), March 25 (the feast of the Annunciation), August 15 (the feast of the Assumption) and September 7 and 8 (the feast of the Nativity of Mary). In addition, the pilgrims who come from Split and who go to Medjugorje like to stop there in order to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Sometimes groups of pilgrims celebrate Mass in this very beautiful site.
